ABOUT
In the fall of 2016, I joined Youth With A Mission as a staff member with their orphan care ministry in Vinnitsa, Ukraine. Our ministry team makes weekly visits to an infant hospital in the city, and to several orphanages throughout the oblast (province) with whom we have an established relationship. As well, we run two transitional living homes on a property just outside the city limits. During our time at the orphanages, we host arts & crafts events, sporting competitions, summer camps and more, all within a gospel-centered context.
The main focus of our ministry is the transition homes. Here, through our relationship with our boys and girls who have aged out of the orphan care system, we hope to equip them with practical skills such as preparing for continued education, job hunting, budgeting, and independent living. We believe that modeling a proper two-parent household that offers spiritual nourishment at its core will sustain our teens beyond this transition.
I believe that orphan care ministry in this part of the world is critical given the instability in the region, and the time for the body of Christ to take the lead in compassionately serving orphaned youth is now.
